Times change for defenses

When the Buffs travel to Ellensburg, Wash., Saturday to take on No. 6 Central Washington at 3 p.m. (CDT), they will be facing the Wildcats for the second time in the past 10 months and for the second time in their past four games.

WT (0-2 overall and 0-1 in the LSC) knocked off CW, 49-42, in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs last season on Nov. 15, 2008 at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. That game was an offensive fireworks show. The two teams combined for 52 first downs 1,088 total yards and 14 kickoff returns.

A repeat of such offensive production by either team seems unlikely. CW is allowing an average of five points a game. The Buffs are allowing 30.5 points a game, but not all those points have been hung on the defense. WT's special teams have allowed nine points in two games.
