Running backs coach Sean Dawkins

New West Texas A&M running backs coach Sean Dawkins had something in common with the Buffs before he set foot in Canyon.

Arguably the biggest win in WT history came on Sept. 23, 1980, when the Buffs knocked off Oklahoma State - coached by Jimmy Johnson - 20-19 in Stillwater.

Dawkins, a former collegiate running back at Troy, scored a touchdown on a 3-yard run in Troy's 41-23 win over OSU on Sept. 14, 2007 - one of the bigger wins in Trojan history.

It is worth noting that former Palo Duro Don Julius Crosslin had two short touchdown runs for OSU in the game against Troy.

That WT win was from the good ol' days of Amarillo Globe New sports coverage.

That was back when the AGN sports department still had some bite.

In the 70's and 80's...the AGN would actually discuss what was being done or NOT DONE in the WTSU athletic department.

Putt Powell and Garet Von Netzer would have been all over WT for doing a poor job of promoting WT football.

The AGN would have been discussing the BAD decision by WT to not promote WT football and not sell tickets this season in the Toot-N-Totum stores.

Why don't you guys start working like journalists and start investigating and questioning things that should be done at WT...but are not being done?

All you guys do is report games...and repeat whatever WT peeople tell you...with no analysis or investigation or questioning of what they tell you to print.

Well, that was a weird little tangent. Your gripe has some legitimacy, but consider:

- Back then, a newspaper's staff was at least twice what it is now.

- Would you rather go without the reporting of the games at all? Maybe you do, but the bulk of our readers don't.

- It's early. Give us a chance to do the reporting you want. We'll get there, but it's hard with our staff size.
